Conrad Weller's Full Biography

Do you know the Kyou Kara Maou anime guys? This person is a character there.

He's my all time fave chara, alongside with Sebastian, but I never find his biography, not even once.

Now, by a chance I stumbled upon one when I'm searching for his story when he first came to Earth. Pretty lucky, huh? ^^

History:
Conrad Weller is a half-demon and the second son of the former queen, Lady Cherie. His father, Dan Hiri Weller, was a great swordsman and took Conrad with him on his travels through the human lands at times.

During one of those travels, they passed an old convict colony for women who had a forbidden relationship with ones of the demon tribes. On that fateful date, Conrad met his future best friend and comrade in arms for the first time; Yozak Gurrier. His father gave Yozak the choice to die in despair or to go with them and pick up a new life as a demon. Conrad himself took a liking to that loudmouthed redhead, who had more mischief in his head than he would have ever dared to think about.

Conrad and Yozak only had a short time together as playmates before Conrad needed to go back to his duties as the second son of the current Maou, Lady Cherie. When Conrad came back from his traveling he had a nasty confrontation with his little brother, Wolfram. Wolfram heard that Conrad's dad was a human and came to the conclusion that Conrad himself was a half demon. That didn't sit well with Wolfram, who felt himself betrayed by his second big brother. The result was destructive. Conrad lost the respect and adoration of his little brother and he did not cope well with that situation. In the end he chose the only option he saw at that time; he accepted Wolfram's decision and pulled away from his little brother. That was the first time he felt his heart break.

Conrad's path in the royal household was already decided for him. It was expected of him that he should pass the schooling at the Higher Academic for Officer's in the demon army. At that time, Conrad was a stubborn youth with a big ego. He didn't see a reason why he should take up the training there. He was the best after all. His father had already taught him everything... or so he thought. His private teacher, Gunter von Christ, had his hands full with Conrad's bad attitude against his trainers and comrades. More than once, Conrad left the school grounds in secret to meet up with his partner in crime, Yozak. Together they went to bars and tried to live out their youth in secret.

Then, suddenly, everything changed. His uncle Stoffel von Spitzberg had managed to manipulate his mother into declaring a war against the aggressive humans. Because of the still remaining prejudices against the half-demons, even in the demon lands, the half-demons of the army were used as cannon fodder in the war against the humans. Conrad went against his mother's wishes and registered as Captain for a squadron of half demons. With his best friend Yozak at his side, he managed to form the most successful group of half-demons in that war. Just like his red haired friend, he wanted to fight for the demon kingdom and for his right to live there as a half demon.

In that time Conrad met Julia von Wincott. The blind healer fascinated him and a deep friendship formed between them. Where Yozak gave him reason to search for adventures and the bright side of life, Julia gave him gleams of how life could be when you cared deeply for someone. Conrad had never met someone as pure and innocent as that blue haired woman. Her gift to him, a blue stone with a secret flower in it, was her parting gift before he went to the frontline.

The last and conclusive battle was fierce and bloody. Conrad owed Yozak his life, even when he couldn't find any happiness in his saving. Yozak coerced him to agree that he wouldn't seek death after the redhead risked his own life to bring him back home. That hadn't set well with the brown haired Captain. In his mind he had failed; most of his fellow soldiers were dead. Julia had also died; he had not been able to protect her. He had risked Yozak's life with his failure. Guilt, shame and a deep self-loathing pulled him in a deep depression when he lay in the hospital. They had won the war, but paid an unacceptable price for it.

It was only when Conrad was summoned to the holy rooms of the First demon king that he got a new purpose in his life. He was chosen to be the guardian of Julia's soul, who would be the new Maou in the future. With a guilty heart and a firm determination, he traveled with Shinou's help to Earth. There he searched out the chosen parents who would give birth to the new Maou of their world. All hope of peace and redemption laid on that small child. Conrad also had the pleasure of naming name their future king. He watched over Yuuri for two years before he was satisfied that everything was going according to the Great Shinou's plan.

Conrad had gone to Earth as a broken man and returned as a man who now had a little bit of hope in his heart. He was no longer the angry young man, but a grown up with enough guilt in his heart for a lifetime. No longer was he the wild youth who had his head full of mischief or anger. His mind was filled with duties and devotion, which some people would call an obsession and unhealthy. Conrad still viewed Yozak as his best friend, but he could no longer feel so carefree as the redhead. Still, Yozak was the only one who Conrad felt comfortable enough around to let his guard down from time to time.

Eighteen years later the time of the new light and king of the demon kingdom had come. Conrad was chosen as the guardian and protector of the 27th Maou, his godson. As a time of adventures and changes began, Conrad dedicated his whole life to Yuuri. Yuuri was his hope and light. He started caring deeply for the young man. He would give his life for the new king. Conrad used his skill, knowledge and determination to help Yuuri reach his goals, to get peace in their world. That's why it hit him hard when it seemed that the first king, their god and creator of the demon kingdom, had betrayed them. Conrads helplessness against Shinou's powers and the Sage's shrewd cleverness showed him that his skills also had their limits. The last battle, where he could only watch as he was used for Yuuri's downfall, added to his already 'guilty' personality. It was hard to accept that he himself, who had sworn to protect Yuuri with his life, was one of the four keys for the forbidden boxes. The day when he saw his beloved king standing there, fighting an invisible battle against the darkness inside himself, was the day where Conrad swore that he would never leave Yuuri's side again. Before, it was always everything for the kingdom and the king. Now, it was everything for Yuuri.

Personality:
He is a guilt driven man who is constantly questioning his decisions and his actions. Has he done enough to aid Yuuri? Should he have done something differently in the time of danger? Can he really help Yuuri in his quest to bring peace to Shin Makoku? Has Julia really done a wise decision by choosing him as her guardian?

Outwards he shows a mask of perfection and a smiling face, but inwards there is a constant battle of different emotions. Feelings of guilt, self doubts, the pain of sustained loss and worthlessness fight against hope, happiness and the will to survive for Yuuri´s dream, and to succeed where he has failed before, to protect the people close to his heart.

Before he had been send to Earth, he felt guilty and worthless. He hated the fact, that he survived the war, but so many good men were sacrificed for a handful of doubtful reasons, given out by power hungry nobles. The guilty feelings of a surviver followed him to Yuuri´s world. There he learns to accept the fact that his fate isn´t an early death but to become a guardian for the new king. He learns to deal with them in his own way. He doesn´t like to talk about his feelings and thoughts, he often tries to change the topic when Yuuri asks Conrad about his past. The soldier seems to think that Yuuri´s good hearted personality shouldn´t be tainted by his own failures and the blood on his hands.

He does not like failures, so he tries hard to avoid them. He tries to solve a conflict by talking first.
If that fails, he has no problem with taking up his weapon. When first meeting someone, he seems to be a friendly man. He gives people the benefit of a doubt, and is willing to change his opinion about people if they have proven his first impression wrong. Conrad is a guarded man when it has to do with his own person. He values his privacy, only Yozak and Yuuri have the talent to put him at ease for a short while.

His motivations are mostly driven to bring peace to his world. He is tired of fighting and killing. He has the desire to see humans and demons living together in peace. He knows that this is a long and wary task to accomplish. But from the moment as Yuuri has been born he doesn´t doubt that this child would be their savior. Yuuri has made clear that he doesn´t want to see any bloodshedding in the name of his future kingdom and Conrad tries really hard to follow the wish of their new king and his godson. His fierce and unbreakable loyalty to Yuuri is born out of his experiences with the young man and Yuuri´s strong stand to his own believes. Yuuri never gives Conrad a reason to doubt him. Through the series it´s clear that Conrad stands at Yuuri´s side, no matter what life is throwing their way. But this unbending loyalty has its faults too. Sometimes Conrad tries to keep things away from Yuuri, if he thinks the young man isn´t able to handle them. He feels guilty about such actions because Yuuri deserves his honesty and should have the chance to decide for himself. But Conrad´s past experiences, his strong desire to protect Yuuri from harm and his deep wish to bring peace to Shin Makoku let him sometimes act on his own. He follows Shino´s order to retrieve the forbidden box of Big Shimaron by turning (apparently) traitor on Yuuri and his kingdom. This act shows also that Conrad doesn´t value his life. In the finale part of the arc he nearly scarifies himself for Yuuri´s life.

Conrad can't tell a joke if his live depends on it. If somebody is laughing, then it was a lucky hit or they are humoring him. During his training in the academy he reached the military rank of captain. In the war against the humans he showed a talent for leadership and military strategy. He cannot hold his liquor and therefore tries to stay away from too much alcohol. Conrad is not able to use magic, a downfall to his heritage. Like Yozak, he is powerless against magical attacks. However, that would not hold him back if the life of his godson was on the line.

Conrad is one of the best sword-fighters in his country. He even bested his own tutor. The only person who seemed to be his equal was Berries, King Saralegui's bodyguard. He learned to play baseball on Earth and trains regularly with his majesty and a few kids from a half demon town. He has a strong endurance, which is enforced through his stubborn nature never to give up.

Verde History:

One month ago Conrad moved into the little village with the name Verde. He retired from his duty as bodyguard and guardian of a young prince. He was no longer needed, now that young lord finally reached the official age of adulthood.

He could have stayed in the castle as a noble man but he thought that it was finally time to search for his own special place, away from the trouble of the royal court. His mother was sad to see him go but she understood why he was doing that. He served the kingdom for many years now, lived through two wars and lost a few loved ones. That he didn´t break under the weight of his experiences was a miracle for his mother.

Conrad had grown up to a handsome, calm and gentle, young man, despite all the heartache he carried around with himself.

He decided that he still wanted to help out other people and followed an old friend´s advice and applied as a local counselor in Verde. His noble background and education as a captain and leader of a small army gave him a good chance to be accepted by the local authority.

It had been a lot of work and skill of organization to move his belongings and himself to this little village. The reason was simple, the location of the village made it nearly impossible to find it without a guide. Conrad didn´t mind, that would mean nobody could find him. Here he could finally start a new life as Conrad Weller, far away from his old life.

He used the first month to get used to the much lazier life in Verde. And soon his past was only a faint, bittersweet memory.

He helped out at the local orphanage and taught the kids the wonder of baseball while waiting for the acceptation of his application as the local counselor.

Sexuality:
Conrad´s Sexuality can be described as heterosexual with a tendency to be a-sexual. In his young years it seemed that he was in love with Lady Julia who was engaged to another noble. He never tried to be more than a good friend to her even when his behavior resembled that of a knight who was wooing his lady. After Julia´s dead he took the task up and brought her soul to Earth so it could be reborn. Since then he has dedicated his whole live to Julia´s reincarnation, Yuuri. But he has no romantic feelings for the young man. Conrad seemed to be busy with his job and resist any kind of flirtation and attempts to set him up with somebody. He can be charming and flirty himself, but it seemed as if he always kept his distance.

So... he doesn't want to get involves with any kind of romantic relationships huh? Such a shame... He's a real hot one...
